Why oh why do I love this band so much? I received my 2 CD set of their 2003 Garage Concerts today. The sleevenotes of CD 1 say this;
“In October 2003 Cardiacs did as they were told and played some gigs. They played tunes only from way back when they were very horrid eggs. Tunes from no later than 1983. Many of the tunes dating back as far as 1976 when the band first started, when Cardiacs were 15-16 years of age or there abouts. Shitting stinking babies wot demanded feeding. The band were called Cardiac Arrest back then. They didn’t even know what Cardiac Arrest meant. Anyway, they did as they were told and had the gigs recorded. 32 tunes crammed on to two albums. In your pathetic little hand you are holding one of these CD’s. This is VOL I, there is another CD (VOL II). Hear the definitive versions of these very early songs on these albums. Some had never even been recorded before. These concerts were recorded in London at a very intimate venue called “The Garage”. They were recored over three consecutive nights. This CD holds a selection of tunes from those concerts.”
Brilliant. The CD’s are ace. The band are ace and they’re touring again in November. How wonderfully fantastic. Go and see them. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, you’ll not see anything like them.
